Patriots Rumors: Odell Beckham Jr. Trade Not Planned After Brandin Cooks Move

Adam WellsApr 3, 2018

Despite having a wealth of draft picks at their disposal, the New England Patriots are reportedly not seeking a deal for New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Per CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Patriots "won't be" in the market for Beckham.

That news comes in light of ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting the Patriots will acquire 2018 first- and fourth-round draft picks from the Los Angeles Rams for wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

With the Rams' first-round selection reportedly in their possession, the Patriots will have two picks in each of the first two rounds.

Per Schefter, a league source noted the Giants have asked for at least two first-round draft picks if they are going to trade Beckham.

Giants co-owner John Mara has said the team isn't actively shopping Beckham, but didn't shut the door on a deal potentially materializing.

"We're certainly not shopping him if that's what you're asking," he said, via SNY.tv's Ralph Vacchiano. "But again, when you're coming off a season where you're 3-13 and played as poorly as we played, I wouldn't say that anybody is untouchable."

Beckham's situation is further complicated because NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the star wideout won't play for any team next season until he receives a long-term contract extension.

A first-round draft pick by the Giants in 2014, Beckham is entering the final season of his rookie contract. He had at least 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons but was limited to four games in 2017 due to a fractured ankle suffered in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers
