Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Fight Won't Get Canceled, Says Dana White
UFC president Dana White thinks money will be the key factor for the Nevada State Athletic Commission's decision to go on with the rematch between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, White said he thinks "there's too much money involved" for the commission not to move forward with the highly-anticipated boxing bout currently scheduled to take place on May 5.
Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions released a statement on March 5, announcing the boxing superstar tested positive for clenbuterol and said it was due to consuming contaminated meat in his native country of Mexico.
NSAC executive director Bob Bennett filed an official complaint against Alvarez on Thursday after he failed two drug tests. This came after the organization temporarily suspended Canelo on March 23, per Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.
As part of the complaint, Bennett said Alvarez's disciplinary hearing has been set for April 18.
Per ESPN's Dan Rafael, the NSAC's complaint "all but seals the deal" that Alvarez and Golovkin's matchup on May 5 will be canceled because it's "extremely rare for the commission to issue a complaint against a fighter for doping violations and for the fighter to go unpunished."
Alvarez and Golovkin agreed to a rematch after their first fight last September ended in a split draw.
