Davidson hit solo shots in the fourth and fifth innings and then hit a three-run shot in the eighth. The designated hitter had never hit multiple home runs in a game before Thursday and is one homer away from matching his entire first-month total of the 2017 season.
George Bell of the Toronto Blue Jays (1988), Tuffy Rhodes of the Chicago Cubs (1994) and Dimitri Young of the Detroit Tigers (2005) previously went deep three times on Opening Day. Bell and Young did so against the Royals, who may just want to revisit their starter decisions in their first game.
