
USMNT Beats Australia, Final Match Stats, Highlights & World Cup Group D Scenarios
The United States men's national team secured a spot in the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday.
Alex Freeman and an own goal gave the USMNT a 2-0 win over Australia in Group D play.
The USMNT could clinch fist place in Group D as early as Friday night. For that to happen, it needs a draw between Turkiye and Paraguay, or a Paraguay win late on Friday in Santa Clara.

The Americans benefited from another early own goal to open the scoring on Friday.
Folarin Balogun made a terrific run down the left side and sent in a cross that deflected off Australia defender Cameron Burgess and into the back of the net.
Alex Freeman doubled the lead for the USMNT in the 43rd minute.
Freeman's goal was initially ruled offside, but a VAR check confirmed that the full-back was on side and the goal was good.
The Americans bagged two first-half goals for the second game in a row. It marked the second time in the USMNT's World Cup history that it scored multiple first-half goals in two games at a single World Cup.
The USMNT will now wait for the Turkiye-Paraguay result to see if it will win Group D on Friday.
If not, the Americans can win it outright on Thursday against Turkiye.
At minimum, the Americans are through to the round of 32 thanks to Friday's triumph in Seattle.
