Updated NBA Trade Rumors on Derrick White, Walker Kessler, Celtics, T-Wolves and Jazz

With four days remaining until the NBA draft, more trade rumors dropped Friday, including separate ones involving Boston Celtics guard Derrick White and Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler.

The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly have strong interest in White, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.

"Similarly, league sources say the Minnesota Timberwolves — whose Antetokounmpo pursuit also appears to have cooled — have strong interest in the Celtics' Derrick White," Amick wrote.

There also remains the possibility of Kessler, a restricted free agent, "pushing his way" out of town, perhaps via sign-and-trade, per Amick.

"When it comes to the sensitive situation between Walker Kessler and the Utah Jazz that I reported on this week, this much is clear: If the 24-year-old restricted free agent was thrilled with the Jazz's offer, he would have accepted it already," Amick began.

"And until he does, the prospect of him pushing his way out of Salt Lake City — either by sign-and-trade, an offer sheet from another team (which Utah could match) or signing the qualifying offer ($7.1 million) and becoming an unrestricted free agent a year from now — remains possible. But the Jazz did put a significant offer on the table: As ESPN first reported, and team sources confirmed, Kessler was offered a five-year deal worth approximately $140 million."

White, who turns 32 on July 2, has been a starter for the Celtics since the 2022-23 season. He played an instrumental role in the team's 2023-24 championship run. For his Celtic career, White has averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game. He's one of the best defensive guards in the league and just made the NBA's All-Defensive First Team this past season.

This past season was a tough one offensively for White, who shot a career-low 39.4 percent from the field. He also made 32.7 percent of his threes, his lowest mark since 2021-22. His struggles got worse in the playoffs, where he scored 11.1 PPG on 32.1 percent shooting in the Celtics' seven-game loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.

Still, White can certainly bounce back offensively, and there's no ignoring his tremendous defensive efforts.

It's understandable why Minnesota might be interested. White could be a great backcourt mate and complement to Anthony Edwards, and adding him would give Minnesota tremendous depth with Ayo Dosunmu already aboard. Minnesota could use more help to make the leap into the upper echelon of the Western Conference, which is currently patrolled by the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, and White can be an answer.

As for Kessler, the former Auburn star was limited to just five games this season after suffering a torn labrum. In his most recent season (2024-25), the 7'2" big man averaged 11.1 points (66.3 percent shooting), 12.2 rebounds (4.6 on the offensive end) and 2.4 blocks per game.

He's a tremendous rebounder and defender and will be an asset down low wherever he goes.

However, it's unclear where that will be. ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported that a "gulf" remains between Kessler and the Jazz after the 24-year-old turned down a five-year, $140 million offer. Utah, for the record, does have the right to match any offer sheet another team send Kessler in restricted free agency, so it's possible that gulf closes.

Kessler has made it clear he wants to stay in Salt Lake City.

Whether that ends up being the case remains to be seen.
