Giants Rumored to Sign Ex-Dolphins Captain Mike Thomas
The New York Giants and safety Michael Thomas reportedly reached an agreement Monday on a two-year contract.
Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com first reported the free-agent signing.
Thomas signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in May 2012. He never made a regular-season appearance for the organization before getting signed off the Niners practice squad by the Miami Dolphins in December 2013.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
In Miami, the 28-year-old Stanford product emerged as a valuable special teams contributor in addition to his usual role as a reserve safety. He also served as the team's captain for that phase of the game, and Pro Football Focus named him to their first-team All-Pro team last season for the third time in four years.
Thomas has made 55 special teams tackles over the last four seasons, which is tied for the league lead over that span, per Raanan.
He missed the latter stages of the 2017 campaign due to a knee injury.
Thomas may be given a chance to compete with Darian Thompson for the starting job at free safety during training camp and the preseason. Even if he ends up as the backup, he'll bring value off the bench and on special teams.
