Odell Beckham Jr. Trade Discussed by John Mara; WR Could Play Out Contract

New York Giants co-owner John Mara told reporters Sunday at the league's annual owners meeting there's a  "possibility" wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will play the 2018 season without receiving a contract extension and that no player on the team is untouchable in trade talks.

"I can't answer that one way or the other," Mara said when asked if Beckham would be on the roster come Week 1, per ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert. "We're certainly not shopping him. Again, when you're coming off a season when you're 3-13 and played as poorly as we played, I wouldn't say that anyone is untouchable."

Mara's comments came on the same day he had some harsh words for the star wideout regarding a video that emerged on social media possibly showing him around drugs in a hotel room.

"I think too often he allows himself to be put in bad situations and needs to use better judgment," Mara said, per Seifert.

"As I've said before, I'm tired of answering questions about Odell's behavior and what the latest incident is. I think he knows what we expect of him, and now it's up to him."

Beckham, who has torched opposing secondaries for 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns over his first four NFL seasons, is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2019 without an extension.

Given that production, it's not surprising the 25-year-old is reportedly eyeing a major raise.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Beckham covets a new deal that will pay him at least $20 million annually on average. Such a contract would make him the league's highest-paid receiver.

However, Garafolo said he "[doesn't] see any way" the Giants would agree to those terms.
