Andrew Luck Says Frank Reich's New Offense 'Sounds Great' for Colts

Joseph ZuckerFeb 16, 2018

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is ready to get started with the team's new head coach, Frank Reich.

"That sounds great," Luck said in an interview with the Colts' official website. "I know all the best offenses that I've been a part of in my career, we've not been static and we've attacked. And I'm sure he'll have a great flavor and we'll involve as many people as we can, and attacking defenses is what it's all about."

An uptempo style wasn't a hallmark of Reich's offenses when he was the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers in 2014 and 2015 and then the Philadelphia Eagles for the past two seasons. According to Football Outsiders, the Chargers were 28th and 14th in pace, while the Eagles were 19th and 24th.

Now that he's coaching his own team, Reich will have far more control over how the offense operates.

"We will be a multiple, attack, uptempo offense," Reich said of his new team, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "We will be aggressive."

Reich added that there will be a "heavy no-huddle component."

Before he can take advantage of the Colts' new offense, Luck will have to get healthy.

The three-time Pro Bowler missed the entire 2017 season after undergoing shoulder surgery in January 2017 for an injury that dated back to 2015.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported in January 2018 that Luck is finally progressing toward the stage in his rehabilitation when he can start throwing a football again. Luck had traveled to Europe to seek alternative treatments for his injured shoulder.

While the 2018 season is still months away, there's no guarantee Luck will be available when Reich is in charge for his first regular-season game with the Colts.
