Ron Baker Out Indefinitely with Shoulder Injury After Dislocation, Torn Labrum
New York Knicks guard Ron Baker is out indefinitely after an MRI showed he suffered a shoulder dislocation and a torn labrum, the Knicks announced Wednesday.
Baker played less than a minute in New York's 111-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday before exiting the game.
Baker's injury compounds one of the more puzzling moves during the NBA offseason. He appeared in 52 games and averaged 4.1 points for the Knicks in 2016-17, which was enough for the team to offer him a little over $4.3 million guaranteed this season and a $4.5 million player option in 2018.
The 24-year-old hasn't justified the Knicks' investment so far. He's scoring 2.4 points and dishing out 1.6 assists per game. New York does, however, have a 4.2 net rating with Baker on the court, compared to a minus-1.8 net rating when he's on the bench, according to NBA.com.
Still, Baker was only playing 13.3 minutes a night before injury, and he has eclipsed 20 minutes in five of his 29 appearances.
Between Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee, the Knicks have enough depth at 2-guard to cope with Baker's indefinite absence.
