Kyrie Irving on LeBron James Picking Him No. 1 in All-Star Draft: 'We'll See'
Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving was unsure about the prospects of former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James selecting him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 All-Star Game draft.
According to TMZ Sports, Irving said, "We'll see."
Irving also suggested there won't be any hard feelings if James doesn't take him since he's happy to be an All-Star and appreciative of the opportunity.
After reaching three consecutive NBA Finals together and winning one championship, Irving and James split during the offseason when Cleveland granted Kyrie's trade request.
The move has worked out swimmingly for Irving, as he has led the Celtics to an Eastern Conference-leading 34-13 record.
Meanwhile, the Cavs are mired in a major slump that has seen them slide to 27-18, putting them third in the East behind the Celtics and Toronto Raptors.
Despite the Cavaliers' struggles, James is enjoying an MVP-caliber season with averages of 26.8 points, 8.7 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game. Irving has been excellent in his own right, averaging 24.5 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 boards per contest.
James was the top All-Star vote-getter, which earned him one of the two captaincies and the No. 1 pick in the inaugural All-Star draft. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is the other captain, and while he may like to select his Warriors teammates, he will initially be at LeBron's mercy.
James could steal a Warrior from Steph, go with the feel-good moment of selecting Kyrie or even go off the board entirely by taking an up-and-coming star such as Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Although the draft itself won't be televised, the results will be revealed Thursday.
