Giants Rumors: Pat Shurmur Expected to Be Named Head Coach This Week
The New York Giants are expected to officially name Pat Shurmur their next head coach this week after the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news.
Shurmur, 52, served as the Vikings offensive coordinator since Norv Turner left midway through the 2016 season—first on an interim basis before taking over full time in 2017.

The Vikings ended their season on a low note, scoring the game's opening touchdown before suffering a 38-7 blowout defeat in Philadelphia.
"It's probably another time and place for that," Shurmur told reporters of accepting the Giants job. "Just get through this. It's disappointing to lose this way. We've had such a great season. It's always like it just comes to a halt, and I think that's the way we feel right now."
Case Keenum, who a week ago sent Minnesota to the conference title game with a 61-yard desperation heave to Stefon Diggs, was limited to 271 passing yards on 48 attempts. He threw one touchdown and two interceptions.
It was just Keenum's third game of the 2017 season with multiple interceptions. He had 3,547 yards and 22 touchdowns against seven picks during the regular season, emerging as an outside MVP candidate under Shurmur's stewardship.
Shurmur led the Vikings to an 11th-place finish in total yards and 10th-place ranking in points scored despite losing his Week 1 starting quarterback (Sam Bradford) and running back (Dalvin Cook). The Vikings offensive coordinator kept things moving and did a particularly stellar job in the second half of the season, coinciding with Keenum's rise.
"He's one of the best coaches I ever played for," tight end Kyle Rudolph said. "They're getting a really special coach, and as good of a coach he is, he's an even better human being. If he is going there, we'll miss him.
"His philosophy, if you would, was always, 'Let's find out what we do well and do it more often.' I love that man."
Shurmur previously led the Cleveland Browns to a 9-23 record in 2011 and 2012 before being fired.
The Giants are coming off a disappointing 3-13 campaign, which featured massive internal discord on both sides of the ball. Eli Manning was controversially benched for a game, and members of the secondary spent the latter half of the season bickering.
