Lonzo Ball MRI on Knee Injury Reveals 'Minor' Sprain; Questionable vs. Grizzlies
Los Angeles Lakers announced guard Lonzo Ball had an MRI that revealed a "minor" left knee sprain. He is considered questionable for Monday's game vs. the Memphis Grizzlies.
According to SportsNet's Mike Trudell, the MRI was a "precautionary" move. Ball is having the procedure performed in Memphis, Tennessee, where the Lakers are scheduled to play the Grizzlies on Monday night.
Health has become an issue for the rookie, who has missed time due to shoulder, quad, calf and ankle injuries this season.
This adds to the start of a career that has already been filled with a lot of criticism for the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft.
Perhaps the biggest story is his father, LaVar, who has been outspoken since last season when Ball was a freshman at UCLA. He made things awkward for the Lakers at the start of January when he said the players don't want to play for head coach Luke Walton, per ESPN's Jeff Goodman.
There are questions about Ball's play on the court as well—especially his shooting, as he has made only 35.6 percent of his shots from the field this season.
On the plus side, the 20-year-old has filled up the stat sheet this year, averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists.
If Ball is forced to miss more time, Tyler Ennis and Jordan Clarkson should get more minutes running the point.
