Nick Saban on Alabama's Win vs. Georgia: 'I've Never Been Happier in My Life'
Alabama coach Nick Saban won his sixth career national championship and fifth in the last nine years, but he enjoyed this one as much as any in his past.
"I've never been happier in my life," the coach said after the game, per SEC Sports.
Saban also explained that he doesn't care about matching Bear Bryant with six national titles, instead saying he is "happy for our players."
Alabama lost to Clemson in the finals last year on a game-winning touchdown in the closing seconds, but the team flipped the script this year against Georgia.
Down 13-0 at halftime, Saban subbed in true freshman Tua Tagovailoa, who helped lead the team back and eventually force a 20-20 tie. In overtime, the quarterback completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith to give the team a walk-off 26-23 win.
The normally reserved head coach went wild on the sidelines after the game-winning play, via Dr. Saturday:
Saban remained all smiles after the game while celebrating with his team.
The 66-year-old is used to winning, now with a 132-20 record in 11 years at Alabama. He has won more championships than every active coach in FBS combined, via SportsCenter.
However, this game featured a lot of excitement behind a youthful team, featuring true freshmen leading the way in passing, rushing and receiving. These players did enough to help a veteran coach have one of the best days of his life.
