Tramon Williams, Packers Reportedly Agree to 2-Year Contract

Scott PolacekMar 22, 2018

Cornerback Tramon Williams was an undrafted free agent entering the NFL but will play his 12th season in 2018 after signing with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.

Former Packers receiver and current NFL Network analyst James Jones reported Williams is returning to Green Bay on a two-year deal. The defensive back spent the first eight years of his career—2007 through 2014—with the team.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Friday the two-year deal is worth $10 million, noting Williams passed his physical.

This deal comes after he tallied 41 combined tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery for the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 after signing a one-year contract. He also played for the Cleveland Browns in 2015 and 2016.

Williams was a Pro Bowler in 2010 with the Packers and had a career-high six interceptions, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. Green Bay won the Super Bowl that season in what was an impressive stretch of turnover creation for the cornerback that included five picks in 2008, four in 2009 and four in 2011.

He also notched three interceptions in four playoff games on the way to that title.

He is past his prime and will be 35 years old during the 2018 season, but he did enough to impress then-teammate and seven-time Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson.

"After last week's game, I asked him how much he had left in the tank," Peterson said during the 2017 campaign, per Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official website. "He said he's got a lot left. Hopefully we can get him back. If not, that's just the nature of the business."

Williams brings physicality and running game support while also creating turnovers against the pass, even at his age.

The Packers shouldn't expect an All-Pro performance, but they are bringing in a playoff-tested veteran who has 13 postseason games' worth of experience and a championship ring on his resume to help stabilize the secondary.
