Toronto Blue Jays Make Franchise History with 2nd Straight Walk-Off Win

Bleacher Report MilestonesJul 27, 2017

Toronto Blue Jays left fielder Steve Pearce collected his first hit of Thursday against the Oakland Athletics in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Fortunately, that one hit was a walk-off grand slam, giving the Blue Jays their first back-to-back, walk-off home runs in franchise history, per Sportsnet Stats. Kendrys Morales hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday and added a game-tying solo shot in the bottom of the ninth Thursday.

The Blue Jays fell behind by three runs in the top of the first inning but tallied a run of their own in the bottom half. Thursday's theatrics really began during the fifth inning when starting pitcher Marcus Stroman, catcher Russell Martin and manager John Gibbons were all ejected after the latter argued balls and strikes.

Thursday's victory moved the club within six games of the .500 mark and they still sit just 7.5 games out of the division lead despite bringing up the rear in the AL East.

With the non-waiver trade deadline approaching Monday at 4 p.m. ET, the Blue Jays appear to be on the selling end of the spectrum. Starting pitcher Francisco Liriano (6-5, 5.99 ERA) has been linked as a possible trade candidate to the Kansas City Royals, according to Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star.

For the time being, the Blue Jays will continue to plug away at eating into the deficit in the division coming off a four-game sweep of the A's. Toronto opens up a three-game series at the Rogers Centre on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels.

J.A. Happ (3-7, 4.13 ERA) takes the mound for Toronto on Friday, and Liriano—possibly making his last start in a Blue Jays uniform—is scheduled for Saturday's tilt.
