Jose Altuve Collects Most Hits Across 68 At-Bats Since 1923
Houston Astros All-Star Jose Altuve went 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, two doubles and a walk during Monday's 13-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
In doing so, he became the first player to produce at least 37 hits across 68 at-bats since Roger Hornsby—whose .358 lifetime batting average is good for second all-time behind Ty Cobb—achieved the feat way back in 1923, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Altuve also became the first player to collect 37 hits across a 15-game stretch since Ichiro Suzuki did the same back in 2004, per Elias Sports Bureau.

With his impressive 4-for-4 performance Monday, Altuve raised his batting average on the season to .365, just a shade behind MLB's leading hitter, Justin Turner (.369). The second baseman also tied Bryce Harper for the longest current hitting streak in the majors.
Altuve was worthy of his All-Star nod, slashing .347/.417/.551 with 13 round-trippers and 18 stolen bases during the first half.
The 27-year-old has taken the league by storm since his breakout campaign back in 2014. Since then, he's collected four All-Star selections, three top-15 finishes for MVP voting, three Silver Sluggers and a Gold Glove.
Looking to keep his impressive hitting streak alive, Altuve will face the Phillies again on Tuesday. Nick Pivetta takes the mound for Philly, owning a 3-5 record with a 5.58 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
