Enbo MMA Club Featuring Children in China Reportedly Under Investigation
Following the release of a documentary by Pear Media, the Enbo MMA Club in China is reportedly under investigation for its training of children.
According to this video, the club takes in orphaned and poor children and trains them in hopes of developing them into UFC fighters:
Alice Yan of the South China Morning Post reported authorities in Chengdu, Sichuan province, are now looking into the club and its operating procedures.
The video features a former police officer named Enbo, who founded the club in 2001.
Per Yan, Enbo said he legally adopted the children who are part of the club, and he explained that they come from troubled backgrounds: "Some of these kids were orphans, and some had a family that was too poor to educate them."
According to Zhuang Pinghui of the South China Morning Post, an education official from Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture said underage children would be taken back to Liangshan and provided with schooling.
The education authority also said Enbo MMA Club "incited and used underage children in commercial fighting and made a huge profit."
According to Pinghui, Enbo MMA Club supervisor Zhu Guanghui told China Central Television that the club had sent papers to police as part of the investigation to prove legal adoption of the children.
