Takeaways From SNME 44 ➡️
The Usos
They've been in good form since winning the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships, but The Usos' run as champions came to an end on Sunday night.
They were beaten by The New Day in the standout contest of the night, with the match threatening to steal the show.
But with the titles going to new owners, what next? The answer, in this regard at least, is straightforward.
SmackDown Live's tag division is in an interesting position as things stand. American Alpha have been split, Breezango are going to be feuding with their mystery attackers and there doesn't appear to be too many challengers for The New Day.
Except The Usos. Their feud with the new champions has been great so far, and there's no reason the WWE should move away from it ahead of SummerSlam.
Kevin Owens
If AJ Styles' victory over Kevin Owens at Madison Square Garden was a shock, then him losing the United States Championship back to K.O. at Battleground was even more of a surprise.
The WWE is playing hot potato with the championship as things stand, and ahead of SummerSlam, it's looking increasingly likely the company will having a final and decisive rubber match between the two at the show.
But is there the prospect of perhaps including more men into the match?
The WWE has never been shy in making shows like WrestleMania and SummerSlam as explosive and exciting as possible.
And perhaps a multi-man match for the United States Championship, to give as much of the roster exposure as possible, is the way to go.
Styles and Owens will be fighting for the title again, but just don't be surprised if more parties are involved this time.
Jinder Mahal
The Great Khali's return to the WWE on Sunday night ranks as one of the more surprising, and perhaps underwhelming, comebacks of recent times.
It became quickly apparent that Khali was to deny Randy Orton victory and the WWE Championship, and in that regard, it looks like Orton's title hopes have taken a step back.
So what's next for Jinder Mahal and the future of the WWE Championship?
You only have to look at victories elsewhere at Battleground on Sunday night to find the answer, and it comes in the shape of John Cena.
Cena's victory against Rusev not only gives him momentum, but the prospect of coming back into title contention shortly after his latest return to the company.
Throw in the anti-American gimmick Jinder is rolling with, and he is obvious opponent material for Cena.
Expect it to happen at SummerSlam.
