Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere

Matt JonesJul 22, 2017

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to make a staggering £70 million bid for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.

According to John Cross of the Daily Mirror, the Ligue 1 side "believe they can tempt Arsenal into selling, because Sanchez going to PSG would be preferable to him signing for one of their direct Premier League rivals."

As Cross reported, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been adamant the club will not sell Sanchez this summer. That's despite the fact the player has under one year remaining on his contract and could leave the Gunners for nothing next summer.

Cross also noted that if Arsenal do decide to sell, they would seek to complete the signing of Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco, with a deal said to be "in place" for the 21-year-old.

B/R's James McNicholas believes the club has a critical decision to make on Sanchez and a host of other transfers:

Arsenal have done well in the transfer market this summer, with Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette both excellent signings. But losing a player of Sanchez's calibre would leave a major void in the attacking third of the pitch.

Sanchez scores goals, makes goals and sets a blistering tempo. His hunger to win possession back, limitless work rate and tactical adaptability make him an almost invaluable asset.

Still, it's apparent the player wants to move on, and it would be preferable from Arsenal's perspective to see him leave for another league. With that in mind, PSG's aforementioned offer would surely be tempting to accept.

Swansea City Want Jack Wilshere

According to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Swansea City are ready to try to prise Jack Wilshere away from Arsenal this summer.

It's added that West Ham United, Newcastle United and Sampdoria are also interested in the 25-year-old, who spent the previous campaign on loan at Bournemouth. The Serie A side are said to have already had an offer for the midfielder rejected but will return with a second bid.

Swansea are also in the picture, and while Arsenal reportedly value Wilshere at £20 million, Law suggested there is hope a cheaper deal could be done later in the transfer window.

Wilshere's long-term future at the Emirates Stadium appears to be in doubt, with a succession of injuries hampering his progress. Harry Sherlock of Goal can see why the Gunners are ready to cash in:

The England international did at least recover some fitness last season and put together a consistent run of games for the Cherries before an injury in April cut short his campaign.

When he's on form, Wilshere is a wonderful footballer to watch. He uses the ball well, he can breeze past opponents in midfield and links up play in the final third. He's the type of player who would flourish in an Arsenal team that is purring.

Sadly, we haven't seen those attributes frequently enough, and it's difficult to see how Wilshere forces his way into the Arsenal team as a result. A transfer may be what's needed to kickstart his career.
