Here is the latest leaderboard from the major championship:
Spieth witnessed the wind switch direction during the middle of his round, but the 23-year-old remained composed as he tackled the links conditions.
The leader got off to the perfect start as he fired a birdie on the opening hole, but a bogey on No. 3 stunted his charge.
The weather ruined many players' form as gusts made for challenging playing conditions, with periods of torrential rain.

A further bogey on No. 9 compounded a difficult front nine for the prodigy, but Spieth appeared happy to push forward with his strategy.
The American produced a moment of magic on No. 10 as he saved par with a high-quality chip in.
Sky Sports The Open (h/t the European Tour) shared the moment of genius:
ESPN's Jason Sobel was staggered by Spieth's ability:
Matt Ginella of the Golf Channel wondered if he was witnessing history:
The moment excited the watching crowd, and Spieth took the opportunity to put his foot on the gas as back-to-back birdies placed him at one under for the day.
However, the best was yet to come as the superstar scored a magnificent eagle on No. 15, punctured by bogey putts either side of the shot.

Spieth showed no nerves as he attacked a 17-foot putt for his eagle chance, and the ball broke perfectly from left to right to sink in the hole.
Once again, the crowd showed their appreciation of the player's skill as he played some of the most entertaining golf of the year.
Sobel once again hailed the youngster in the inclement weather:
Spieth exercised caution as he approched the clubhouse with the light beginning to fade quickly.
The American talent saved par on No. 17 and received applause as he laid up on the edge of 18 to complete a solid day at the office.
Spieth's temperament has calmed in recent years, and his concentration in the worst conditions has been a credit to his talent and training regime.
The tournament leader has placed himself in pole position for glory, but with McIlroy chasing, the weather and wind will have its say throughout the weekend.
