Alvaro Morata 'Really Happy' to Join Chelsea, Comments on Antonio Conte, More

Rory MarsdenJul 19, 2017

Alvaro Morata has said he is "really happy" to be moving to Chelsea from Real Madrid and expressed his excitement at the opportunity to work under manager Antonio Conte.

The Spanish striker, who was heavily linked to Manchester United earlier in the summer, also explained to Carlos Forjanes of AS that it has been an unusual time with his future so uncertain:

"It has been a slightly strange summer for me. A lot of things have happened. In the end, if God wishes, tomorrow I will be at a club that have wanted me for years, with a gaffer whom I have spoken to constantly. So I'm really happy. I have been training hard for whatever outcome, but I was clear that this was my objective. It's sad to leave Real Madrid, but I hope that everything will go well for me at Chelsea. ... I'm going to the team managed by the coach who has placed the most faith in me, and that's great for me."

Per Goal's Nizaar Kinsella, Conte targeted Morata when he was in charge at Juventus, but the Serie A giants only signed him after Massimiliano Allegri had taken the top job with the Old Lady.

The Italian manager looks to have finally got his man after Real announced on Wednesday an agreement had been reached between the two clubs.

The Spanish giants also posted a video of Morata saying his goodbyes:

However, with the striker still needing to pass a medical, he said he won't be "completely content" until he has been presented as a Chelsea player. He added he is "not considering" the possibility of rejoining Real again in the future, per Forjanes.

Morata, 24, played second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at Real last season but still managed to net 15 goals in La Liga and provide four assists in 26 league appearances (14 starts, 12 from the bench), per WhoScored.com.

Per former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin on BBC 5 live Sport, there are major questions over Diego Costa's future at Stamford Bridge, so Morata could well be Conte's first-choice No. 9 next season:

He will be under pressure to perform straight away as the Blues look to defend the Premier League title, but Morata is clearly happy with the switch and has all the attributes needed to thrive in English football.
