Alexis Sanchez Reportedly PSG's No. 1 Transfer Target Amid Latest Neymar Rumours
Alexis Sanchez is reported to be Paris Saint-Germain's first-choice target this summer despite Arsenal's insistence he will not be allowed to leave.
According to Sky Sports News HQ, PSG want Sanchez, who is in the final year of his Gunners contract, as their marquee acquisition of the summer even though manager Arsene Wenger has said "the decision is not to sell him."
PSG are also believed to be interested in Barcelona star Neymar, and the club have over £200 million to spend in the transfer market, enabling them to potentially meet his £195 million release clause.
While Neymar would be the stronger acquisition given he's three years younger than Sanchez and is a slightly better player, the Chilean would be far cheaper, even if PSG have to pay a premium to convince Arsenal to part with him.
The pair are similarly productive, too. According to Transfermarkt, Sanchez contributed 30 goals and 19 assists for Arsenal in all competitions last year, while Neymar produced 20 and 27, respectively.
As such, Sanchez would still be a superb capture for PSG as they seek to wrestle the Ligue 1 title back from Monaco next year.
According to the Telegraph's Jason Burt, Les Parisiens are nearer to agreeing a deal for him than Neymar:
Bleacher Report's James McNicholas believes that if Sanchez does not sign a new contract with the Gunners, they should consider allowing him to join the French outfit:
Indeed, as unpalatable as his departure will be for the majority of Arsenal fans, they cannot afford for him to join a direct rival in the Premier League, which may well be what happens if he leaves for free next summer.
According to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, Sanchez told Chile's Radio Sport of his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League, but Wenger has not put too much stock in his comments:
"I don't give too much importance to things that are translated, you know. The whole interview that I got didn't really mean that.
"The main focus for us is to concentrate on the Premier League, and the Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.
"We played 20 years in the Champions League, that's 17 years before Sanchez arrived and three years with him, so he can get us back in there."
Wenger's stance is to be expected, but if Sanchez does not sign a new deal he will have a difficult decision to make regarding the player's future.
How much PSG are willing to part with to snap him up is also a factor. While he may have little time remaining on his contract, he is Arsenal's most important player coming off the back of an incredible season, so he should still command a hefty fee.
