Imagining the Perfect Scenario For a Shield Reunion on WWE Raw
Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are all busy doing work, and getting over, on WWE Monday Night Raw. But they're not doing so as The Shield.
The most dominant faction in the history of Vince McMahon's company became history back in 2014 when the three men went their separate ways. Since then, the Reigns, Rollins and Ambrose have held six world championships between them and main evented pay-per-views all over the country.
However, they still remain apart. Will the WWE ever pull the trigger on a Shield reunion?

The easy answer is yes. The Shield was so incredibly over, and was so connected to fans, that it would likely not be difficult to plug back into that again. Rollins, Ambrose and Reigns were automatic every time they stepped up, and they always worked extremely well together.
That chemistry is surely still there, and fans would love to see it all come back together.

The best possible reason why The Shield has not had a second run, though, is that it's just not been the right time. The WWE has worked hard to develop each guy as a main event star, and it's not always been a perfect process to this point.
Rollins has been injured twice, and he accidentally inured Finn Balor as well. Ambrose has been under fire since he's been elevated, as he's been criticized for having no heart for the business. Reigns knows what it's like to be under fire; he's spent the past three years doing nothing but dodging bullets.
But despite how many bumps the WWE has taken along the way with The Shield alumni, there is no question that the initial goal has been met.
The company took three hot prospects and created three top-level Superstars. Getting them over together was just the first step, and it worked extremely well. Getting them over individually is a work in progress. But had it not been for The Shield, the WWE would have been forced to build three guys separately, just as it's typically always been done.
The Shield was a three-for-one deal, and it could not have worked out better.
Now the company is beginning to tease a reunion, thanks to an uneasy alliance between Rollins and Ambrose. The Lunatic Fringe doesn't want Rollins' help; Rollins is the man that destroyed The Shield in the first place. But Rollins wants redemption, and he wants it by the side of his former Shield brother.
Some may believe it's nothing more than the WWE referencing the past, merely for the sake of the current storyline. Others may feel a Shield reunion is imminent, which may indeed be true.
But is the time right for The Shield to ride again?
If it's going to happen, all three guys must be on the same page. Rollins and Ambrose are already working together against The Miz and his henchmen, Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. Reigns only needs to be in the vicinity of that feud, and he could be dragged into the middle of it.
If that happens, then fans would be treated to a Shield reunion live on Monday Night Raw.
The WWE faithful would finally get to see The Shield together again, and all three men would surely love the opportunity to make it happen. Maybe that's what The Shield is meant to be; a guaranteed hit whenever the company needs to spark a Raw or a pay-per-view event.
It would be the go-to gimmick, and it would get over every time.
That's what D-Generation X became, and fans loved every minute of it. Triple H and Shawn Michaels had one last run in 2010, and they brought the house down every time. They were entertaining. They were nostalgic. Most importantly, they were fun.
But would fans settle for a Shield one-night stand or a feel-good tour? Or do fans want The Shield back for more than that?
If Rollins and Ambrose's feud with The Miz continues and if Reigns does indeed get involved, then there may be no better scenario for a Shield reunion. The Miz has done some of his best work over the past several months, and he's arguably the best heel in the company. If anyone has earned a prime time rivalry with WWE's top guys, it's him.
If Miz and The Miztourage continue to get over as heels and begin dominating on Raw, then they will perhaps hit the point of critical mass. Reaching that level means a hard-hitting team will need to step up to take them down. That's where The Shield comes in.
The Miz, Dallas and Axel could be in the middle of mugging Ambrose and Rollins, much like they did on the July 17 edition of Raw. Reigns' music hits, The Big Dog runs down the ramp and makes the save. The announcement is made that on the next Raw, The Shield will reunite for one night only, to take on Miz and company.
But what if the WWE has something bigger in mind? What about Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe vs. The Shield? Would the company book that match in any other environment other than The Survivor Series?
Do fans want to wait until November 19 for that to happen?
Booking a Shield reunion match live on Monday Night Raw would surely be a ratings boost for the program. It would obviously also be a shot of popularity for Reigns, though the WWE may or may not care about that anymore. Fans hate him on his own, but alongside Ambrose and Rollins is a different story.
The Shield is bigger than any hate fans have for Reigns, and that is indeed saying a lot.
However, the most important aspect of a Shield reunion is to respect the gimmick. The men involved worked hard to get it over, and they deserve praise for their efforts. Despite what anyone thinks of Reigns, Ambrose, or Rollins, no one can deny that The Shield worked. The trio had a massive mountain to climb, and they conquered that mountain.
Cheapening that effort by revisiting it merely for a ratings pop may not be the nostalgic moment the guys want.
But if it's going to happen, it should happen on Raw. If The Miz and his crew are not the right choices, then maybe it's not the right time. However, it could be that the right time is indeed coming at some point.
It could be that fans need to once again believe in The Shield.
