Liverpool have two pre-season friendlies under their belt so far, having beaten Tranmere Rovers 4-0 before drawing 1-1 with Wigan Athletic.

Palace have played one match so far in their pre-season preparations, in which they defeated Maidstone United 3-1.ย

Neither side has made a great deal of headway in the transfer market so far this summer, but fans could be set to see more of new faces Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke for Liverpool, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be in line to feature for Palace.

Salah made his debut against Wigan and scored his first goal for the club to equalise after the Latics went ahead.

As Goal's Melissa Reddy noted, he linked up with Roberto Firmino for the goal, while Liverpool writer Jack Lusby anticipates great things from the Egypt international:

He will be hoping to continue developing chemistry with the Reds' other forwards, though Sadio Mane will not be present, having been omitted from the squad to remain in Liverpool to recover from knee surgery.

Meanwhile, Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe is eager to see Loftus-Cheek in action for Palace following his loan move from Chelsea:

Both sides will get to play two matches in the tournament regardless of the result, so it won't have a huge bearing on their pre-season preparations.

Nevertheless, even if the trophy means little, winning it can contribute to a positive atmosphere ahead of the new campaign.
