Luke Harper and the 7 Most Underused Wrestlers on WWE's Roster

The Doctor Chris MuellerJul 15, 2017

WWE has recently started giving some underappreciated Superstars more time to connect with the WWE Universe, but the size of the Raw and SmackDown rosters means there will always be a few people who struggle for inclusion.

You would think six hours of weekly live programming would be enough time to give everyone a fair shake. Unfortunately, certain Superstars always end up being ignored.

Part of the problem is how management thinks fans have no long-term memory. It's like the company thinks we will forget about one feud if it isn't featured for a week so a different storyline can develop.

This has led to repetitiveness in the booking of each show, which is one of the biggest complaints many fans have about the product.

If WWE would start rotating talents in and out of storylines instead of using the same people over and over, Raw and SmackDown might be a little more interesting.

This slideshow will look at seven Superstars who have been underused due to WWE's shoddy booking.

7. Sin Cara

1 of 7

Even if WWE doesn't want to use Sin Cara on 205 Live, he still has a lot of value. Not only is he a talented wrestler, but he is also an established character.

With the exception of a few matches on Main Event, Sin Cara hasn't had a significant presence on any show since The Lucha Dragons broke up.

Some people may not even realize he is on the SmackDown roster. Sin Cara lost a match to Dolph Ziggler on May 2 and hasn't been used since.

As someone with years of exposure, he could be a great addition to the cruiserweight division. He just needs more than a week or two to connect with the fans again.

6. Mickie James

2 of 7

When Mickie James returned to SmackDown, it seemed like she would add some valuable veteran experience to a division that was mostly occupied by newer talents.

Unfortunately, she was moved to Raw and has been used sparingly ever since. She appears to have developed a loose partnership with Dana Brooke, but it hasn't led to any major storylines.

James is one of the few people who can bridge the gap between the original group of women who excelled in a post-Attitude Era environment and today's newer generation of stars.

She is still a skilled wrestler with a loyal following. How management hasn't found an excuse to put her in the hunt for the Women's Championship is a mystery only The Fashion Police could crack.

5. Lince Dorado

3 of 7

Lince Dorado is a gifted luchador who made a great impression on the WWE Universe during the Cruiserweight Classic.

However, WWE seems to have a problem effectively using anyone who wears a mask, and the problem has gotten even worse in recent years.

Gran Metalik and Sin Cara have suffered in the same way, and it makes no sense whatsoever, especially from a marketing standpoint.

Masks are an easy sell at the merchandise stands. Kids love masked wrestlers because they resemble superheroes more than the average Superstar.

Dorado could be a contender for the Cruiserweight Championship if WWE bothered to take more than a week to give him a chance to establish himself on 205 Live.

4. The Ascension

4 of 7

WWE has done a spectacular job with most of the Superstars who have been brought up from NXT over the past few years, but The Ascension is not one of those success stories.

Konnor and Viktor were as over as anyone else in the developmental system. They had an intimidating look and a throwback gimmick that made them completely different from the majority of the teams on the main roster.

They have intensity and athleticism, but a series of bad feuds and a lack of understanding of how to book them on the creative team's part has led to them becoming a joke.

Their most significant contribution to a storyline in 2017 was a segment with The Fashion Police where they accepted tickets to an Eddie Money concert.

The tag team division is limited on SmackDown at the moment, so it would be beneficial to everyone to build The Ascension back up into worthy contenders to the Tag Team Championships so there is more variety in the title scene.

3. Apollo Crews

5 of 7

The Titus Brand may have helped Akira Tozawa become a top contender for Neville's Cruiserweight Championship, but it has done little to help the struggling career of Apollo Crews.

In fact, Crews' most memorable moment from the past several months was being kicked across the ring by Braun Strowman while attempting to hit a standing moonsault.

When it comes to pure athleticism, few are on his level. He might need a little help in the charisma department, but that's why he was paired with Titus O'Neil in the first place.

The biggest problem may be how quickly he was called up from NXT. Crews had a few high-profile matches, but he was never a real contender for the NXT Championship.

Fans didn't have enough time to get to know him, and that unfamiliarity followed him to the main roster. His potential is great, but the WWE Universe needs a reason to care.

2. Jason Jordan

6 of 7

Chad Gable has been getting a lot of attention recently, but his tag team partner has been out of the spotlight for a long time.

Jason Jordan is an incredible athlete with more to offer than he has been given the chance to show. Even if he isn't wrestling, he should at least be at ringside to support his partner during singles matches.

American Alpha was elevated to the title quickly after being brought up from NXT, but once they lost them, they were all but forgotten.

It looks like Gable might be getting a singles push in the near future, but WWE shouldn't forget about what Jordan can bring to the table.

1. Luke Harper

7 of 7

WWE employs several Superstars who deserve more than what they are being given, but Luke Harper is one of the most underused wrestlers with the greatest potential.

When he was part of the feud between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt, Harper was getting great reactions from the crowd every time he entered the ring.

He has proved himself to be one of the more versatile big men on the roster, and he has even shown great promise when given the chance to deliver his own promos without Wyatt taking all the attention for himself.

At the least, he should be pursuing a midcard title. His first run with the Intercontinental Championship barely scratched the surface of what Harper is capable of.

All of the Superstars on this list could benefit from some screen time and a decent storyline, but they're not the only ones. Who do you think needs to be used more on Raw and SmackDown?
