2018 No. 1 Recruit Marvin Bagley Reportedly Considering Skipping Senior Year

Alec NathanJul 14, 2017

Marvin Bagley, the top-ranked recruit in the class of 2018, is reportedly considering skipping his senior year of high school and reclassifying so he can hit the college hardwood in fall 2017.

According to 247Sports' Jerry Meyer, "some intel" has trickled in that has linked Bagley, who will turn 19 in March, to possibly reclassifying.

"The buzz is that hometown USC could be his desired destination as a potential 2017 recruit," Meyer wrote. "Andy Enfield has been a familiar face at his games, but so have John Calipari and Sean Miller. In the end, though, Bagley's recruitment has the feel of a Duke and USC showdown."

CBS Sports' Gary Parrish confirmed Bagley is exploring a possible move to expedite his arrival at the next level.

Hailing from Chatsworth, California, the 5-star power forward has edged out Bol Bol—the son of former NBA center Manute Bol—and human highlight reel Zion Williamson as the class of 2018's top player

Bagley has been particularly impressive on the Nike EYBL circuit, where he's averaged 25.8 points and a league-high 14.9 rebounds while shooting 54.6 percent from the field. The 6'11" standout has also been a terror on the defensive end, racking up 3.1 blocks and 0.9 steals a night.

Should Bagley decide to reclassify and commit to USC, he would immediately propel the Trojans into the national title picture.

Andy Enfield's squad was already on the rise after defeating the SMU Mustangs in the Round of 64 at the NCAA tournament, and Bagley would raise their ceiling exponentially once paired with 4-star swingman Chuck O'Bannon Jr. and returning talents like Chimezie Metu, Elijah Stewart and former Duke guard Derryck Thornton.

An early move to the college ranks would also presumably put Bagley in the conversation as one of the top prospects in the 2018 NBA draft.
