US Women's Open Golf 2017: Tee Times, Dates, TV Schedule, LPGA Prize Money
The Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, will host the 72nd U.S. Women's Open, with the action set to get underway on Thursday.
Brittany Lang will be seeking to defend the title she won at CordeValle Golf Club 12 months ago, although she's an outsider in an impressive field. World No. 1 So Yeon Ryu and Lexi Thompson are among the favourites to sample glory in this year's edition.
Still, this competition does have a reputation for shock results, as was evidenced when Lang beat Anna Nordqvist in a playoff in 2016.

Preview

If the 2017 tournament is as dramatic as the conclusion to the previous year's event, then spectators should be in for a treat.
Lang was involved in a playoff with Nordqvist and their battle seemed set to climax at the third of three additional holes. However, the latter was pulled up for grounding her club in the bunker on the second hole played, resulting in a two-stroke penalty and delivering the trophy to the American.
The organisers will be hopeful similar controversy is avoided this time round, although there should be high excitement; it's difficult to pick a winner from this exceptional field.
Of the players involved, Ryu is most likely a narrow favourite. The South Korean clinched the second major title of her career earlier this year with a win at the ANA Inspiration and secured another victory last month in Arkansas.

As noted by LPGA's Amy Rogers, the world No. 1 is the only multiple winner on the tour so far in 2017:
Thompson has come close in a couple of the majors. At the ANA Inspiration she was runner-up to Ryu, and she was a creditable seventh at the Women's PGA Championship. The 22-year-old will be hopeful of making a winning step in New Jersey and adding to the one major title she won in 2014.
As noted by the LPGA website, Thompson will be making her 11th appearance at this event, having made history by previously qualifying as a 12-year-old.
Thompson has been boosted in the buildup to the U.S. Open by being nominated as one of ESPN's best women's golfers of the year:
In one particularly intriguing group, Inbee Park, Lydia Ko and Shanshan Feng will play together; they are the gold, silver and bronze medalists, respectively, from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Of that threesome, it's Park who looks to be in the best position to win. The seven-time major winner has been solid in the two major appearances of the year so far and will feel confident of glory here if she can find another gear to go through.
Victory at the Manulife LPGA Classic will also give Ariya Jutanugarn a much-needed boost ahead of the tournament. After missing the cut at the PGA Championship, she will be desperate to bounce back and rediscover the standards that made her so feared in 2016.
