WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 10

Erik BeastonJul 11, 2017

With Great Balls of Fire a thing of the past, all eyes turned toward SummerSlam and presenting the Superstars and rivalries that will play out at the Biggest Party of the Summer on August 20.

In doing so, some Superstars stepped up, winning matches for the first time in what felt like forever while other, higher-profile performers struggled with questionable bookings.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows returned to Raw and immediately made an impact, knocking off The Hardy Boyz by pinning Matt in the center of the ring. Bray Wyatt, often maligned for talking a big game but rarely winning, pinned Seth Rollins for the second time in as many nights.

On the opposite end of the spectrum was Seth Rollins and Finn Balor, former SummerSlam opponents whose prospects do not reflect their talents or star power.

Why exactly did each of the Superstars featured in this recap of the July 10 episode of Raw wind up where they did and what may it mean for them going forward?

Take a look for yourself.

Winner: Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows

1 of 4

In the wake of The Hardy Boyz' loss to Sheamus and Cesaro at Great Balls of Fire, the brothers extreme were faced with the question, "what's next?"

They found out Monday night, and it did not go well for them.

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows interrupted a promo heavily peppered with references to the Broken character Matt Hardy cultivated in Impact Wrestling and set up a match with the future Hall of Famers. From there, they proceeded to beat Matt and Jeff in tag team action, doing so relatively clean.

Almost one full month removed from a blistering backstage promo as part of WWE's Raw Fallout video series, during which their frustration was apparent, they exploded back into tag team title contention with a win over the men who ended their reign back at WrestleMania 33.

While it remains to be seen if Anderson and Gallows will turn one victory into a string of them and challenge Sheamus and Cesaro at some point in the near future, a strong win is a nice change of pace given how wildly mishandled they were over the last four months.

Loser: Finn Balor

2 of 4

Yes, Finn Balor defeated "The Drifter" Elias Samson Monday night, but that does not make up for a sinking feeling that the former NXT champion is still directionless and somewhat irrelevant on the Raw brand.

The Irish-born Superstar is over, incredibly marketable and a compelling in-ring performer.

That he does not have any obvious prospects on Raw, any potential opponents or storylines waiting for him, is an enormous indictment on a writing staff that has done an impressive job of utilizing talent over the last two months.

Balor is the biggest loser not of his own doing. He has remained a hardworking, high-quality professional wrestler despite the creative disappointments. At some point, though, fans will see him as a really cool midcard talent rather than the main event attraction he has been at numerous times throughout his career.

With Samson in the rearview mirror, it is time for Balor to move on to bigger, better and more meaningful things before he devolves into just another guy on a roster full of them.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

3 of 4

Bray Wyatt won two matches in a row. Clean.

Let the shock of that statement set in for a moment.

The former WWE champion is one of the company's biggest losers, constantly talking a big game but routinely losing when the lights are brightest. His cryptic promos have become a staple of the character, as has his inability to beat the biggest names in WWE.

Needless to say that when he beat Seth Rollins clean in the center of the ring Sunday night at Great Balls of Fire, fans sat up and took note. Then they realized he would probably turn back around and hand the victory straight back to Rollins. It was all but a certainty when a rematch was booked for Monday's Raw.

Then he won again and it became clear that WWE Creative may actually attempt to make up for ineffective, harmful bookings by having The Eater of Worlds win matches against quality opposition.

As the company embarks on the journey to SummerSlam, it should be interesting to see if Wyatt maintains the momentum he has on his side or if WWE Creative reverts to its same stupid booking strategy and beats Wyatt into the ground to benefit a high-profile babyface.

Loser: Seth Rollins

4 of 4

There is no shame in losing to Bray Wyatt two nights in a row. For the many issues that exist with The Reaper of Souls character, he hangs around the main event just long enough to be believable as a top star in WWE.

Seth Rollins dropped two straight matches to Wyatt, but it was a strong hint at a program with The Miz, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas that has Rollins rocking "loser" status on the heels of the July 10 episode of Raw.

Miz is an extraordinary performer, but he champions the midcard by way of his Intercontinental Championship. While Dean Ambrose could seamlessly drop to that level and work with Miz, Rollins is a different beast. He has been portrayed as a solid main event attraction since his heel turn in 2014.

A former WWE champion and someone who defeated Triple H in one of the marquee matches at WrestleMania, Rollins is the type of Superstar fans will take notice of when he drops below the level he is perceived as being at.

Yes, working with Miz could be beneficial in that it will enhance his babyface heat, something WWE Creative has struggled to do since last August. But it will still feel like a step down for a guy most believe should be headlining pay-per-views and winning championships.
