Neymar Talks Manchester United Transfer Rumours, Says He's Happy at Barcelona
Barcelona talisman Neymar has mocked speculation he could move to Manchester United while acknowledging "anything can happen" in the future despite the fact he remains happy at the Camp Nou.
The Brazil forward signed a three-year contract extension with Catalonia in October, but when asked after a recent Five event if he could move in the future, Neymar said, per Alex Porter of the Manchester Evening News): "Who knows what will happen tomorrow? I'm very happy for now, very well adjusted. But anything can happen. Who knows."
Neymar was then quizzed more specifically about whether he would join the Red Devils, to which he replied: "Yes...or Eibar!"
Eibar have competed for the last three seasons in La Liga, Spain's top flight. Last season, they battled to a club-best finish of 10th.
While it may not have been Neymar's intent to compare English juggernaut United with Eibar, the interpretation is of course that the Red Devils have the same chance at signing him as the mid-table outfit.
In any case, his attentions don't appear to be fixed on landing a move away from the Camp Nou after Selecao Brasileira shared video of him playing alongside Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus at his Futbol 5 tournament:
A shred of doubt regarding Neymar's future may have crept in after Barca ran to second in La Liga last season and ended the campaign with the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup as their only silverware.
It doesn't, however, appear as though that disappointment has dampened Neymar's resolve as he enters his first full season with the club since signing that extension, which will keep him in Catalonia until summer 2021.
French football expert Julien Laurens cited Paris Saint-Germain as another party that could be interested in Neymar, although he told BBC 5 Live Sport he doesn't fancy their chances:
Barcelona can feel pride knowing that despite interest from some of the biggest (and highest-paying) clubs in Europe, Neymar's loyalties lie firmly at their doorstep.
United, on the other hand, will be forced to lean back on their star-studded squad without much hope of landing the Brazilian maestro, although a recent deal to sign Everton's Romelu Lukaku shows they haven't lost their appeal.
