Preview
With so many illustrious competitors involved in these games at such an iconic venue, those in attendance on Sunday should be in for a treat.
Indeed, it was at this stadium five years ago where Farah enjoyed the biggest nights of his career, as he clinched 5,000-metre and 10,000-metre Olympic gold on home soil. The legendary distance runner repeated the trick four years later in Rio de Janeiro.
Now he will be seeking to add to his haul of World Championship titles, having completed a double-double in 2013 and 2015. The man himself suggested on social media he is keen to do so, with London clearly a key part of his preparations:
As noted by the event's official Twitter account, Farah will compete in the 3,000 metres on Sunday in one of his last track appearances:
The Briton will be the star attraction for those flocking to London Stadium, although there are many events to look forward to.
The women's sprint races stand out. As mentioned, Thompson is set to take part and will go head-to-head with Dutch speedster Dafne Schippers. The latter is looking to get the better of the Jamaican over 100 metres and is excited about what's to come.
"All the biggest international stars want to compete there and this year it will be even more of a big deal, so it will be like a preview of the World Championships," Schippers said, per British Athletics.
"Competing in the 100m at this event will be an important part of my preparation for the World Championships and looking at the names in the field, I think it will be a really exciting race."

Still, ousting the in-form Thompson will not be straightforward. As noted by the IAAF Diamond League Twitter account, she's on some run of wins:
The men's 100 metres may lack the star power of the women's event, although a clutch of British athletes will be desperate to impress a home crowd.
Six of the eight competitors will be in GB vests, with Chijindu Ujah posting the fastest time of any this season, 10.02 seconds. Christopher Belcher, of the United States, ran a sharp 9.93 seconds earlier this season and is the favourite for victory.
The men's Olympic 400-metre hurdles champion Kerron Clement will also be in London and will hope to rediscover some form after a disappointing display at the United States trials recently.

Despite not qualifying outright—finishing in seventh at the recent trials—as a Diamond League winner he will take part at the World Championships. On Sunday, he has compatriots Quincy Downing, Eric Futch and Michael Stigler to compete against.
Spectators would have also been looking forward to seeing defending long jump world champion Greg Rutherford in action. But as reported by Ben Bloom of the Daily Telegraph, the Briton has been forced to pull out of Sunday's event and is a big doubt for the World Championships.
