WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 3
The July 3 episode of Raw was an explosive effort from a red brand putting the final touches on the build to Sunday's Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view.
Enzo Amore kicked off the show with an emotional and heartfelt promo that popped the crowd and injected the show with energy right out of the gate.
Samoa Joe kept things rolling later in the night, stomping out of a split-screen interview and hunting down Brock Lesnar in the backstage area. He came close to another physical altercation with the universal champion but was held back by officials before he could lay his hands on The Beast Incarnate.
Titus Worldwide wrapped up the show, seeing their roles increase significantly as Titus O'Neil and Apollo Crews found themselves sharing the screen with The Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman.
As strong an episode of Raw as it was, not every Superstar benefited.
There was Seth Rollins, whose unenviable position was made even clearer Monday night, and Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax, whose night was undoubtedly frustrating, thanks to a booking that made little sense.
Why did those aforementioned stars stand out on another superb night of action and storyline advancement?
Take a look with this recap of the July 3 Raw newsmakers.
Winner: Enzo Amore
1 of 5Enzo Amore exploded through the curtain Monday night, kicking off an explosive broadcast that set the stage for Sunday's pay-per-view extravaganza.
The Certified G cut the promo of his career in which he spoke with conviction and the rawest emotion. With every crack of his voice, it became easier to understand he meant the words that were coming out his mouth and believed his character was justified in feeling the way he did.
That makes for compelling television and a persona one can invest emotionally in.
Admitting no one bounces a check as well as he does, in reference to Big Cass' comments about Amore writing checks his ass can't cash, the New Jerseyan reminded the audience and the 7-foot turncoat of his willingness to get knocked down every day because he will get right back up.
Sometimes rambling but always believable, Amore left an indelible mark on the audience and created genuine excitement for his upcoming match against his best friend-turned-bitter enemy.
A money promo from one of the most gifted gabbers on the roster, Amore's contribution to Raw was as good and effective as any.
Loser: Seth Rollins
2 of 5If Seth Rollins wins Sunday, he gains nothing because everyone beats Bray Wyatt.
If Rollins loses Sunday, he loses credibility because everyone beats Wyatt.
The Kingslayer is caught in a catch-22 situation, unable to foresee a worthwhile outcome. As are most who face off with The Reaper of Souls at this point.
Fresh off his WWE 2K18 cover reveal, and just months removed from pinning Triple H clean in the center of the ring at WrestleMania 33, Rollins should be riding high at the top of the Raw roster. Instead, he feels like a babyface treading water, waiting for an opportunity to come his way rather than being a priority Superstar.
Unfortunately, his rivalry with Wyatt feels like it's in its infancy. As such, the likelihood of Rollins going over in a decisive fashion at Great Balls of Fire is low.
And even if he does win, what does it accomplish?
He is no better or worse off than he was prior to the program. That, my friends, is the epitome of a waste of time and energy.
Winner: Samoa Joe
3 of 5A seething, relentless Samoa Joe quickly grew unenamored with the sit-down interview that positioned himself and universal champion Brock Lesnar in separate rooms, and he stormed across the backstage area to find his Great Balls of Fire opponent.
It took every official in the backstage area, including general manager Kurt Angle, to hold Joe back and prevent an impromptu preview of Sunday's WWE Universal Championship match.
Joe's booking Monday night continued an unbelievably strong stretch for The Destroyer in which he has been portrayed as Lesnar's equal; perhaps, even, his superior.
The Beast Incarnate looked nonchalant when Joe took off to find him, but perhaps he knew Angle and Co. would prevent The Samoan Submission Machine from jumping him and trapping him in the Coquina Clutch again.
Whatever the case may be, Joe has been riding a tidal wave of momentum ahead of Great Balls of Fire and is poised to deliver one of the most intense and important performances of his acclaimed career against The Beast Incarnate in Dallas.
Losers: Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax
4 of 5Just one week after delivering the greatest performance of her young career, Nia Jax teamed with Alexa Bliss, losing to Sasha Banks in what was essentially a two-on-one handicap match.
After taking Bayley out of the match with a ringside attack, Jax and Bliss took turns unloading on The Boss. Unable to put the resilient babyface away, they ultimately fell in defeat when Banks knocked Jax to the arena floor and tapped Bliss out to the Bank Statement.
In what universe was it a good idea to devalue both Bliss and Jax by having them—supposedly two of the elite female performers on the roster—lose a two-on-one match against Banks?
Yes, the Boston native is a multi-time champion and a hell of an in-ring talent, but in no way should she be defeating two opponents. She is not John Cena or Roman Reigns and has never been booked like either of them.
The decision halted Jax's momentum and left Bliss reeling heading into Great Balls of Fire. Considering their statuses as the top two villains in the division, perhaps maintaining their heat should have been of greater concern for the writing team.
Winner: Titus Worldwide
5 of 5For the first time since its inception, Titus Worldwide felt like an act WWE Creative is legitimately behind.
Monday night, Titus O'Neil inspired Apollo Crews to stand up to Braun Strowman and face him in the night's main event, convincing him to beat up the seemingly unstoppable competitor and prove to his baby daughter that monsters do not exist.
Crews turned in a strong performance, too.
He overcame an early onslaught, using his strength and athleticism to battle back against The Monster Among Men.
A nasty bump off a countered standing moonsault proved his downfall, and Strowman picked up the victory. Unsatisfied with merely beating Crews, he continued his assault until O'Neil entered the ring and stood up for his client. The former Florida Gator took the fight to Strowman but suffered a similar fate to Crews.
No, Monday night did not bring Titus Worldwide a victory, but it did bring them main event exposure and in today's WWE, that is almost as important as the win. It serves as proof of management's belief in the act.
The strength of Crews' performance and the reaction O'Neil received in standing up to Strowman after the match should help earn them more attention and a more significant role on Monday nights going forward.
Despite a bumpy start, it appears as though Titus Worldwide will become a staple of the red brand for the foreseeable future.
