SEC Media Days Schedule 2017: TV, Live-Stream Coverage and Known Participants
The 2017 SEC football season may not start for a couple more months, but the hype officially gets underway Monday.
Coaches and players from all 14 member schools will come to the podium over the next few days to discuss the year ahead—and likely give bulletin-board material to opposing teams at some point.
Most of the coaches have been around the block here a few times. None of them will be making their first appearance at an SEC media day. LSU's Ed Orgeron is a head coach in Baton Rouge for the first time at the media extravaganza but previously coached at Ole Miss a decade ago.
"It's been fun, and it's our team now," Orgeron told reporters. "Going through the offseason and the 15 days of spring ball and implementing our offense and defense and special teams with your staff around you has made a world of difference. Now we're going into a great summer program and are having a lot of success in recruiting."
Orgeron will be joined by wide receiver D.J. Chark, running back Derrius Guice and defensive end Christian LaCouture. Guice enters his junior season coming off a breakout sophomore campaign, rushing for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns. He's considered a potential Heisman Trophy contender.
For most, it will be the players, not the coaches, who create the real headlines. Coaches tend to be more reserved in these settings, while at times players begin to allow their personalities to shine through.
Arkansas will send quarterback Austin Allen, offensive lineman Frank Ragnow and defensive back Kevin Richardson to the podium Monday. Tennessee will send defensive back Emmanuel Moseley, offensive lineman Jashon Robertson and defensive lineman Kendal Vickers.
Georgia running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel lead the marquee Tuesday. The pair are future NFL backs who might be the best one-two punch in the nation. The former led the Bulldogs with 1,130 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Nick Saban will bring his name once again to the top of things Wednesday, with wide receiver Calvin Ridley, defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman coming along for the ride.
