MLB All Star Voting 2017: Updated Leaders and Predictions for Fan Selections

Steve SilvermanJul 1, 2017

Voting for the 88th All-Star Game came to an end Thursday night, and the starters for both leagues will be announced Sunday night.

Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees were the leading vote getters for their respective leagues, and both are almost certain to be in the starting lineups in the All-Star Game at Marlins Park on July 11.

Harper has more than 3.6 million votes, while Judge has passed the 3.4 million mark. One of those two will earn the honor as the most popular vote getter among the All-Star candidates.

The last full release of votes took place Monday, and Major League Baseball provided a partial update Thursday for several of the closer races.

One of those is for the Designated Hitter position in the American League, where Corey Dickerson of the Tampa Bay Rays has surpassed Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners. Dickerson has been sensational this year with a .333 batting average, 17 home runs and 39 runs batted in, while Cruz is hitting .286 with 14 homers and 59 RBI.

In the Monday update, Cruz had a lead of nearly 100,000 votes, but in Thursday's announcement, Dickerson was nearly 60,000 votes ahead of his Seattle rival.

On the National League side, Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies has surged past Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs at third base. Bryant had the lead in the Monday update, but Arenado was more than 100,000 votes ahead as of Thursday.

Here's a look at the last full updates for theย American League and National League prior to the Sunday night announcements, which will be broadcast on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.

The American League leaders included catcher Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals, first baseman Eric Hosmer of the Royals, second baseman Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros and with his teammate Carlos Correa at shortstop. Minnesota's Miguel Sano has a small lead over Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Indians at third base.

Judge has a big lead among AL outfielders, while injured Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout is second. Houston's George Springer is third among outfielders, while Michael Brantley of the Indians sits in fourth place.

Since Trout has an injured thumb ligament and won't be able to play, Judge, Springer and Brantley are likely be the starting outfielders for the Junior Circuit.

Buster Posey

On the National League side, Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants has a big lead at the catcher position, while Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals has a small edge over Anthony Rizzo of the Cubs at first base.

Daniel Murphy of the Nationals has the edge at second base, while Zack Cozart of the Cincinnati Reds is leading Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers at shortstop.

Harper, Charlie Blackmon of the Colorado Rockies and Marcell Ozuna of the Miami Marlins have the lead among National League outfielders, and that trio will start the game if they can hold on to their positions when the final vote totals are announced.
