Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn Fight Time, Odds and TV Coverage Guide

Tim DanielsJun 30, 2017

Manny Pacquiao will look to stretch his winning streak to three when he takes on undefeated Jeff Horn in Australia this weekend for the WBO welterweight title. It's the first bout for Pac-Man since scoring a triumph over Jessie Vargas by unanimous decision in November.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao represents by far the biggest challenge of Horn's career. The Hornet will solidify himself as a top contender in the welterweight division if he can prove capable of outlasting one of the era's biggest stars in front of his hometown fans.

Let's check out all of the important details for the highly anticipated clash, including how to watch the action in the United States. That's followed by a preview of the encounter Down Under.

Fight Preview

Pacquiao and Horn come into the fight with completely different motivations.

Pac-Man is out to prove he's still one of the best fighters in the world. Mundane victories over Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas weren't enough to shake off his lackluster showing against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the superfight that didn't come anywhere close to matching the hype.

The 38-year-old Filipino sensation is a heavy-hitting battler from the moment the opening bell rings, and he's embraced the opportunities that will present, per Grantlee Kieza of the Courier-Mail.

"I love to brawl," Pacquiao said. "It's going to be a war. I'm expecting him to come inside close to me, fighting toe-to-toe and I'm ready for that. I love to fight aggressive fighters. I plan to win and a knockout is a bonus."

Meanwhile, Horn must approach the bout as if it's his only chance to break into mainstream boxing consciousness, which it could be. A poor showing against an aging Pac-Man will cause the Aussie's stock to drop after a 16-0-1 start to his career.

Phil Lutton of the Sydney Morning Herald noted the 29-year-old Brisbane native is confident the 10-point plan provided by trainer Glenn Rushton will yield an upset victory.

"It's a plan I've heard him speak to me about 1,000 times. It's perfectly worded," Horn said. "Reading over it is just like listening to him talk to me in the ring. What he's written down is spot on and I can get the job done if I follow it 100 percent. He only sent it to me on the weekend and just said to read it over a few times and make sure I've got it clarified, what I need to do."

Boxing Kingdom pointed out a large hometown crowd will be on hand for an added boost:

Ultimately, Pacquiao is the clear favorite for good reason. His track record is much stronger and, even at this stage of his career, he's the more complete fighter. He should be able to control the pace from start to finish if he wants to show he's still in the upper echelon.

Pac-Man's lack of dominance—his last knockout win came in 2009—does leave the door open for an upset. It would take a mistake-free performance or one truly perfect punch in order for Horn to have his hand raised in the end, though.
