Game Format and Point System
As the schedule above indicates, all eight teams will play five games over the course of six days.
The standings will be kept using a scoring system that rewards four points to the winning team and one point to the team that wins each quarter.
By virtue of those rules, winning teams can earn as many as eight points per game, while losing teams can earn a maximum of three or as few as zero.
Quarters that end in a tie will result in each team earning half a point.
Last year, the Pistons and Magic (white team) tied atop the standings with 28.5 points apiece, while the Los Angeles Clippers finished last with six points.
As far as the run of play is concerned, each game will consist of four 10-minute quarters, with players allowed to remain in the game until they pick up 10 personal fouls.
If overtime is needed to determine the result, a two-minute extra session will unfold. But if the score is still tied after two minutes, a second overtime will take place with the sudden-death—i.e. first point wins—rule in effect.
