Yasiel Puig's Suspension Rescinded by MLB, Will Make Charitable Donation Instead

Rob GoldbergJun 27, 2017

Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig will not serve a suspension after all.

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, his one-game ban was rescinded Tuesday, and Puig will instead make a charitable donation.

Puig was initially suspended for making an obscene gesture toward Cleveland Indians fans earlier this month.

After hitting a second-inning home run, Puig flashed both his middle fingers in the direction of the crowd.

"I reacted that way, and stooped to their level," he said at the time, per USA Today.

The 26-year-old is off to a decent start to the 2017 season, hitting 14 home runs with 41 RBI to go with a .251 batting average. After a pair of disappointing years filled with injuries and a demotion, he is starting to again show the ability that helped him earn an All-Star nod and MVP votes in 2014.

Questions about his maturity remain, however, and this latest issue won't make them go away—with or without a suspension.
