Axel then appeared on Minneapolis' 93X Half-Assed Morning Show (h/t Sean Rueter of SB Nation's Cageside Seats) to elaborate on his feelings:
"They don't need to be on TV. Get them off. It was embarrassing. Looking at that from my perspective, it was funny backstage looking at it, but that's not something that...you know, this is my opinion. The kids watch this show. It's a kid's program, we took it down to PG-13 and made everything kid-friendly, right? And for someone to come on there and grab the microphone and go off and do something outlandish like this and you were told...I guarantee they were told not to do it—it's embarrassing."
In the segment, the Ball family appeared on Miz TV, the talk show of Intercontinental champion The Miz.
At one point, LaVar removed his shirt and started running around the ring before teasing fisticuffs with the A-Lister, who asked for a partnership with Big Baller Brand.
Amid the chaos, LaMelo yelled, "Beat that [expletive]," with the expletive being the N-word.
Per Houston Mitchell of the Los Angeles Times, WWE released the following statement regarding LaMelo's comment: "The inappropriate language used by a guest during the 'Miz TV' segment was not scripted nor reflects WWE's values."
The segment also featured Lonzo, who was making his first appearance at the Staples Center in L.A. since the Los Angeles Lakers selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft last Thursday.
Axel is a member of The Miz's "Miztourage" along with Bo Dallas, and he has been part of WWE since 2007.
The 37-year-old is a third-generation Superstar whose grandfather is Larry "The Axe" Hennig and whose father was the late, great "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig.
