Trumaine Johnson, Rams Reportedly Far Apart on New Contract, Deal Won't Get Done
Cornerback Trumaine Johnson and the Los Angeles Rams remain far apart on a long-term deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.
According to Schefter, a source indicated the two sides won't reach a deal prior to the July 17 deadline.
Johnson will play under the franchise tag in 2017 and make nearly $17 million, per Spotrac.

In 2015, Johnson enjoyed a career year, as he racked up 71 tackles, defended 17 passes and reeled in seven interceptions, all of which are personal bests.
Johnson's production dropped off last season to the tune of 57 tackles, 11 passes defended and one interception, although it could be partially attributed to opposing quarterbacks staying away from him.
While the 2012 third-round pick out on Montana has developed into a quality No. 1 corner, durability has been a concern.
He has missed at least two games in each of the past three seasons, including seven during the 2014 campaign.
If Johnson and the Rams don't reach a deal by July 17, they will be unable to negotiate a long-term contract again until after the 2017 season.
