Frank Ntilikina Says He'll 'Play Great With' Kristaps Porzingis for Knicks
New York Knicks point guard Frank Ntilikina is hoping to make a splash when he debuts in the Big Apple this fall, and he told reporters at his introductory press conference he envisions a seamless partnership with Kristaps Porzingis.
"We’re both European," the No. 8 overall pick said, according to Newsday's Al Iannazzone. "We both have a good IQ and playing pick-and-roll with him will be great. I just know that I will play great with him."
The question moving forward is whether Porzingis will be around long enough to forge a meaningful on-court bond with the French floor general.
On Saturday, the New York Post's Marc Berman reported Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson "may entertain trade offers" for Porzingis again "if things don’t go smoothly in the next several months."
Citing a league source, Berman reported "Jackson is concerned about Porzingis’ long-term viability with the organization after blowing off his end-of-season exit meeting without notification. He regarded it as an act of insubordination."
For now, though, the Knicks will enter the start of free agency with Porzingis and Ntilikina as their two primary playmakers.
And while Ntilikina will undoubtedly need time to adjust as he makes the transition from Strasbourg to the NBA, his 6'6'' frame and 7'0'' wingspan should make him a menace on both ends soon enough.
"What I will bring to the Knicks actually is a lot of hope," he said, per Iannazzone. "I'm a player who will trust the process, work hard and definitely try to be the best player I can be. I’m a team point guard and shooting guard. I’ll just try to make my teammates be better every day."
