According to Scout.com, Mauga is a 4-star prospect who ranks as the No. 29 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 1 player at his position from Hawaii.

As part of his announcement, Mauga said he would keep his options open despite verbally committing to Southern Cal.

Per Jackson Moore of Scout.com, Mauga also received offers from California, Oregon State, Utah, Vanderbilt, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah State and Hawaii.

When asked about what sets him apart from other linebackers, Mauga told Moore that his attitude allows him to stand out: "For me, it's about mindset. It's saying I'm the best and when I face up to somebody I'm going to win—automatic. It's me all the way."

Mauga's one-on-one dominance was recently on full display at the All Poly Sports camp, as seen in this video courtesy of Scout's Blair Angulo:

Mauga is a supremely athletic and explosive force off the edge, and he still has room to grow into a 6'2", 210-pound frame.

The Waianae High School standout excels at rushing the passer, but he is also tough enough to defend the run and versatile enough to play off in coverage.

USC appears to once again be a program on the rise after winning the Rose Bowl last season, and Mauga is the type of player who can help keep Trojans football moving in the right direction.
