Why Baron Corbin and Carmella Were Perfect Picks to Win WWE Money in the Bank
Baron Corbin and Carmella are just the kind of unscrupulous scavengers that should be holding the WWE Money in the Bank briefcase.
Both The Lone Wolf and The Princess of Staten Island emerged from the wreckage of their respective Money in the Bank ladder matches on Sunday's pay-per-view as the victors. And each win was the right move. These two Superstars were the most fitting characters and the two competitors who needed it most.
The way in which Carmella won was a letdown, though.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The first-ever women's Money in the Bank ladder match was too short. And James Ellsworth dumping the briefcase into her lap was part of a deflating ending complete with confused, bickering referees.
But as much as the path to Carmella's victory was flawed, she was the absolute right choice to take home the prize.
For one, the blindsiding one does with a Money in the Bank cash-in makes it more suitable for a heel. The idea is to pounce on a foe when they are at their weakest point. It's an all-but-assured title win thanks to its unfair setup.
Carmella reveling in the unjust way in which she won is a reminder of how perfect the Ms. Money in the Bank role will be for her:
She has no issue attacking someone from behind. She isn't limited by a "do things the right way" mentality. She's a snake in the grass and the Money in the Bank briefcase just gave her some mighty fangs.
The same goes for Corbin.
He showed off how little he cares about honor before the bell even rang on Sunday night. The Lone Wolf attacked Shinsuke Nakamura on the entrance ramp until officials had to take the Japanese star to the locker room.
Corbin is a bitter, nasty goon. He has no need for higher ground. He only wants to issue destruction and make money.
And as Marc Normandin of Cageside Seats pointed out, his character lines up well with the Money in the Bank concept:
But what about Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler, Natalya and Tamina? They are all villains as well. Their moral code matches up with Corbin and Carmella's in many ways.
The eventual winners' careers, though, are at the exact perfect point for the moments they enjoyed at Money in the Bank.
Nakamura has only been on the main roster for two months. There's no need to rush him to Money in the Bank status.
Natalya, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair have won a total of six women's titles between them. Tamina was the only woman in the ladder match field other than Carmella who hadn't won gold yet.

Owens, Ziggler and AJ Styles have won 15 titles with WWE collectively, four of those being a world title. KO is the current United States champ. Ziggler has already been Mr. Money in the Bank.
Both Corbin and Carmella have not claimed championship gold of any kind.
They are both on-the-rise stars, fresh faces on the brand with ample potential. The momentum born from winning Money in the Bank and eventually cashing in is just the spark they need to continue their climb. They outlasted more established names to enter their own in the history books.
Miami Herald columnist Scott Fishman talked about how much Corbin and Carmella will benefit from clutching that famous briefcase:
That will become clear in the coming months. Mr. and Ms. Money in the Bank will be SmackDown's stalking, looming predators. Corbin and Carmella's egos will swell, they will become more dangerous and feed off the contract-filled weapons in their hands.
WWE could have told a hell of a story with Sami Zayn in Corbin's spot. It could have invigorated Tamina's career in emphatic fashion.
Tamina, though, wouldn't excel as the braggart with briefcase in hand. Carmella's ceiling is higher and she will soar toward it thanks to the power of the Money in the Bank narrative. Many an arena will welcome her and Ellsworth with ardent booing.
As for Zayn, he would have made quite the excellent choice to win at Money in the Bank. Hopefully, WWE realizes his value and gets him the spotlight he deserves.
Should the beloved babyface win the WWE Championship in the coming months, Corbin coming in to stomp out Zayn's dreams with a Money in the Bank cash-in would be a moment for the ages.
That is now possible with Corbin holding the Money in the Bank. It's one of many appetizing avenues WWE can take with two emerging heels holding the contract-filled briefcases, one of the great stories WWE can tell now that it has the ideal opportunists waiting in the shadows.
