LSU Says No NCAA Violation Occurred Regarding Ed Orgeron Claims by Hal Mumme

Adam WellsJun 16, 2017

LSU has denied head football coach Ed Orgeron is in violation of NCAA rules regarding satellite camps.

On Thursday, LSU's senior associate athletic director overseeing compliance, Bo Bahnsen, told The Advocate's Ross Dellenger that “I do not see anything where there was any violation of any NCAA rule that would prohibit us from talking to other schools about working their satellite camps.”

This comes after Belhaven University head coach Hal Mumme said during an interview with Justin Nails of 99.1 The Game he reported Orgeron to the NCAA "in regards to camp blocking."

Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel and Michael Rosenberg reported May 18 that LSU was accused of using its financial and political power in the state to prevent schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Houston from holding satellite camps at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Orgeron told Thamel and Rosenberg he is "protecting the state of Louisiana" and noted LSU waited to plan its own remote camps with Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana after the spring game on April 22.

“Apparently, if you’re not from Louisiana, you’re not allowed to look at their players at camps, which is absurd,” Humme told Dellenger. “There are 11 schools in the state that play football. There’s not enough scholarships to go around to everyone in the state.”

Dellenger also noted Humme isn't sure if LSU violated any specific NCAA violation but wanted the NCAA to “look into" the situation with the Tigers.
