Lonzo Ball Reportedly Considering Talking to Teams Picking After Lakers in Draft

Alec NathanJun 15, 2017

Former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball is "still considering" meeting with teams that pick after the Los Angeles Lakers in next week's draft, according to ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne

On Wednesday, The Vertical's Shams Charania reported Ball will meet with the Lakers a second time on Friday so the team can get a better look at his "full training regimen, which includes conditioning drills and on-court workouts."

Following Ball's first workout with the Lakers on June 7, the Orange County Register's Mark Medina reported the Lakers weren't impressed by Ball's conditioning.

The Lakers have been pegged as Ball's preferred landing spot all along, and his father, LaVar Ball, told Lakers Nation's Ryan Ward after the NBA draft lottery that his son would only work out for the Purple and Gold.

"That’s all we working out for is the Lakers," LaVar said May 16. "Just the Lakers. There’s nobody else that we need to workout for."

However, there hasn't been an indication yet that the Lakers have settled on Ball as the choice at No. 2 overall.

In fact, they recently had Josh Jackson in for a second workout and welcomed De'Aaron Fox to their training facility in El Segundo, California, to get an extended look at the former Kentucky floor general.

With the Lakers exploring their options, it appears Ball may be ready to do the same.

Citing a source, Shelburne reported Ball will "consider talking to other lottery teams that have asked to speak with him" once Friday's workout is complete.

One of the primary teams in the running for a late workout with Ball figures to be the Philadelphia 76ers, who will be on the clock at No. 3 overall.

According to a report from ESPN.com's Chris Haynes on May 26, Ball's camp was previously considering a workout with the Sixers.

However, Haynes cited sources who said a final decision wouldn't be made until Ball's agent, Harrison Gaines, discussed the identity of the team with general manager Bryan Colangelo after the Sixers brought point-forward Ben Simmons into the fold with the No. 1 pick in last year's draft.
