Coming out of the University of Notre Dame, Kizer was regarded as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2017 class. He wasn't lacking for confidence leading up to the draft in Philadelphia at the end of April, via USA Today’s Tom Pelissero:
“No one else can do what I can do. And I’ve truly figured out in this [draft] process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game—this is bold—I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. Imagine taking [Tom] Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Why can’t I be the greatest? The only thing stopping me from it is me. That’s what’s driving me now.”
The Browns were able to get Kizer in the second round with the 52nd overall pick. He will compete with Brock Osweiler, Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan to be the team's starting signal-caller in 2017.
In 25 games for the Irish, Kizer completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 5,805 yards with 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
