Alvaro Morata's Agent Says Manchester United Waiting on Real Madrid over Move

Tom SunderlandJun 13, 2017

The agent of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has said Manchester United are waiting to hear back from Los Merengues after launching a "very, very important" proposal to sign the Spain international.

Juanma Lopez acts as representative for Morata, and he told Italian outlet Calciomercato.com (h/t ESPN FC) the ball is in Real's court after receiving an offer from the Premier League club.

Lopez said: "They are a club with great glamour, a very interesting option. I can say that their proposal is a very, very important one and now the decision rests with Real."

That being said, Lopez was reluctant to give a definitive answer when questioned on whether United looked likely to complete a deal and added: "I cannot saywe will see."

Morata is understood to be seeking assurances over his first-team involvement wherever he plays next season, and the forward's recent social media activity suggested he may be open to a move to Old Trafford after all:

The Spaniard would face the prospect of filling Zlatan Ibrahimovic's boots after his time at the club was abruptly cut short due to a knee ligament injury, and a replacement at the head of attack will now be required.

Morata may have only started in 19 of his 43 appearances last season, but a tally of 20 goals and six assists in that time showcases what a proficient scorer he is, and Squawka recently investigated how he might fit at United:

According to Spanish daily Marca (h/t Metro), Morata will rake in an eye-watering £19.4 million annual salary if he decides to join the English giants, which is equal to approximately £373,000 per week.

Those kind of figures could lure just about any player to Manchester should United so wish to spend it, and while Morata may prefer a Real stay, Sport Witness detailed the understanding between him and his current employers:

Now in his second stint at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the former Juventus star is facing up to the prospect of leaving Madrid once again, and it was United boss Jose Mourinho who handed him his Real debut.

Morata could be steered towards Old Trafford as the solution United have been seeking to their striker vacancy, although Los Blancos are still to give the green light on a summer transfer.
