JR Smith Says LeBron James Was 'Made in a Lab' After Alley-Oop off Backboard

Scott PolacekJun 9, 2017

JR Smith indicated LeBron James isn't human after the King tallied a triple-double (31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds) and threw an alley-oop to himself off the backboard during the Cleveland Cavaliers' 137-116 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Friday's Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

"He's a Gatorade baby," he said, via Sports Illustrated. "He was made in a lab somewhere."

Brewed in a lab somewhere is a fitting way to describe James thus far in the Finals, even though his team still trails 3-1. He is averaging a triple-double of 31.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 10.5 assists behind 54 percent shooting from the field and 38.5 percent shooting from three-point range.

He will need to continue his brilliance if the Cavaliers are going to win the next three games and complete a stunning comeback, especially since Games 5 and 7 will be in Oracle Arena.

James scored 41 points in each of Games 5 and 6 and then tallied a triple-double in Game 7 to spearhead Cleveland's 3-1 comeback against the Warriors last year, but even that might not be enough in these Finals.

After all, Kevin Durant is a looming presence on the other side who was on the Oklahoma City Thunder at this time last year. He is surpassing James scoring-wise with 34.3 points a night while adding 8.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists. Beating the combination of Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green three more times before a loss is as uphill of a battle as one can find in today's NBA.

Smith and the Cavaliers better hope James is superhuman the rest of the way.
