Brandon Marshall Speaks on Eric Decker, David Harris Cuts, Odell Beckham Jr.

Tim DanielsJun 8, 2017

New York Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall joked he isn't sure the New York Jets will have enough players for the 2017 season after their offseason roster purge.

TMZ Sports passed along remarks Marshall made Wednesday following the Jets' release of linebacker David Harris and the expected departure of fellow wideout Eric Decker.

"I'm happy where I'm at now," he said. "I think eventually, [the Jets will] be alright. But I don't know if they're gonna have enough men to line up."

The Jets' intentions have become crystal clear in recent months. They are striping the roster of high-priced veterans in favor of cheaper options to create future cap space, and the ensuing struggles they are likely to endure in 2017 should help them land a high draft pick.

Less than a week after the Jets released Marshall in March, he signed with their New York rivals.

One of Marshall's new teammates, top Giants wideout Odell Beckham Jr., skipped the franchise's recent organized team activities. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the absence was "directly related to the wide receiver's desire for a new contract."

Marshall told TMZ Sports he's spoken with Beckham, and he heaped over-the-top praise on his new teammate, but he didn't directly address the OTA issue.

"I have spoken to him, and I guess my message to him is just keep being awesome. Keep rockin' out," he said. "He's the biggest superstar our game has ever seen in the history of football."

Marshall signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Giants. He'll carry a cap hit of just under $4.5 million for the 2017 season.

He's expected to serve as the team's No. 2 receiver opposite Beckham in the starting lineup. Given the chance to face consistent single coverage, Marshall could be in line for a huge statistical season.
