Jets GM Mike Maccagnan Says Tanking Is 'Not Our Focus' After Roster Shake-Up
New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan ensured fans his team isn't tanking during a press conference despite some notable roster moves this offseason.
"That's not our focus," he said of tanking in 2017, per Connor Hughes of NJ.com.
The comment comes after Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Jets will either trade or release wide receiver Eric Decker. What's more, the team announced it cut linebacker David Harris on Tuesday.

Hughes noted the Jets also released a number of players in February and March, including defensive back Darrelle Revis, wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and offensive linemen Breno Giacomini and Nick Mangold.
As a result, there are only four players on the current roster over 30 years old.
Maccagnan suggested the youth infusion is intentional, per Hughes: "We are focused on building this team for the future, and that's kind of our goal all along. It's going to be a roster of opportunities and a very competitive roster at a lot of positions, in terms of players with the opportunity presented to them and we'll see how it unfolds."
That may pay off in the future, but the immediate prospects are slim for a Jets team that finished 5-11 in 2016 and lost so many significant pieces. Hughes called the quarterback situation with Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg "a leaguewide joke."
There is potential help on the horizon considering Bleacher Report's Matt Miller listed Wyoming's Josh Allen, UCLA's Josh Rosen and USC's Sam Darnold in the top 10 in his recent 2018 mock draft.
Perhaps landing one of those talented signal-callers in the upcoming draft will help the Jets turn things around, but fans will likely have to suffer through a dreadful 2017 campaign even if the general manager insists the team is not tanking.
