UCLA Assistant Lisa Fernandez Ejected vs. Texas A&M, Makes Contact with Umpire
UCLA assistant softball coach Lisa Fernandez was ejected in the top of the sixth inning during Saturday's Softball World Series game against Texas A&M after making contact with the home plate umpire.
Per espnW.com, Fernandez argued a close play at the plate and bumped into the umpire in the process, leading to her ejection.
After the game, UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez addressed the incident with Fernandez:
"They are doing everything they can to be able to fight to the last page and there's some calls out here that are questionable. But that's the job; it's the game. Our goal is to not get caught up in that. And I've got to check myself also. Lisa definitely put herself in a position to always have the players' back but the message is: we've got to understand what's in our control. Those calls are going to be tricky at times and I've got to make sure that we don't let it be the reason that we kind of go overboard."
At the time of the questionable call, in which UCLA ran itself into an inning-ending double play on a double-steal attempt, the Bruins held a slim 3-1 lead in the elimination game.
UCLA would break out with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn an 8-2 victory over Texas A&M.
