Andre Roberson, Thunder Reportedly Agree to 3-Year, $30 Million Contract

Restricted free-agent wing Andre Roberson and the Oklahoma City Thunder reportedly agreed to terms Wednesday on a three-year, $30 million deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski added that he preferred a three-year deal instead of getting a fourth year on the contract. 

Royce Young of ESPN.com noted the mutual benefit:

Roberson was the 26th overall pick in the 2013 draft and has only put up modest offensive numbers in his four years with the Thunder. His 6.6 points per game this past season were a career high.

However, the 6'7" forward is valuable thanks to his work on the defensive end. He averaged 5.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while starting all 79 contests he played.

Only Russell Westbrook produced more than Roberson's 3.1 defensive win shares for Oklahoma City last season, per Basketball Reference.

Roberson made an even bigger impact in the postseason, when he averaged 11.6 points, 3.4 blocks and 2.4 steals in five games, all while knocking down 41.2 percent of his shots from three-point range.

While this put him on the radar for teams looking to upgrade their rosters in free agency, he was clear in his intentions to return to Oklahoma City. 

"Definitely want to be back," Roberson said after being eliminated from the postseason, per Ryan Aber and Brett Dawson of The Oklahoman.

"Every indication we've had from Dre and from his people, his agent, is that he loves playing here," general manager Sam Presti added in May, per Dawson.

The two sides were able to come to an agreement to keep Roberson on the roster for at least a few more seasons. With the team also adding Paul George this offseason, the Thunder could be a serious threat in the Western Conference.
